In 1940, nearly half of American homes still did not have complete indoor plumbing. By 1960, that number had dropped to about one in six. That is a lot of bathrooms added in 20 years!

As public water and sewer systems expanded, indoor plumbing brought cleaner water, safer waste removal, and much better sanitation.

It also ended those cold midnight walks to the outhouse with a flashlight.

Today, we expect hot water, a shower, and a flushing commode without giving them much thought.

Indoor plumbing may not be glamorous, but I am thankful for it every single day!
