When I help a seller get ready for photos, I use groupings of three. A cutting board, a small plant, and a bowl of lemons can finish a kitchen counter without filling it.
Three pieces give the eye somewhere to land while leaving plenty of clean counter space. Vary the height, shape, and texture. The arrangement will look collected instead of matched.
The same idea works on a coffee table, bathroom counter, or bookshelf.
